ALL NEW Thruxton and Thruxton R

When a motorcycle company has been around as long as Triumph, they see many different trends come and go. Beginning in the 1960’s the cafe racer was born. Originally created as custom modified motorcycles riders were using for exactly what the name suggests, racing from one cafe to the next. By 1965, the motorcycling public was looking for a factory cafe racer that would compete with the customs being built in home garages. Triumph got their racing team on the case and released the original Thruxton, taking the name from a famous British race track. It was released as a special edition in extremely limited quantities, and it made a big impact on motorcycling at the time, as well as on Triumph as a manufacturer.

Fast forward to 2004, a few years after Triumph had begun it’s Modern Classic line of motorcycles, and riders were again looking for a factory made cafe racer with all the beauty of a vintage motorcycle. In 2010, the 865cc Modern Classic family got another upgrade that brought fuel injection to the Thruxton.

Beginning around 2011, Triumph started looking ahead. Realizing that riders didn’t just want a cafe racer that looked like one of those beautiful bikes from the 1960’s or 1970’s, but wanted something that also felt completely modern, with all of the most up to date technology the motorcycle industry now had to offer, they set to work in research and development.

Five years later, in 2016, they revealed the fruits of that labor, and blew the entire motorcycling industry away.

The all new Thruxton and Thruxton R are motorcycles that have all the aesthetic appeal of the old motorcycles whose legacy they’re following, but they feel absolutely modern and contemporary. This new Thruxton performs even better than it looks. With an all new 1200cc high power engine, ABS, Traction Control, and a ride by wire throttle system enabling three different switchable throttle modes (Rain, Road, Sport), it is the most powerful, most precise handling classically styled motorcycle on the road, with all the safety features and rider aids that modern motorcyclists have come to expect, and a multiplate clutch making for the lightest clutch pull you’ve ever felt on a 1200cc motorcycle.

The Thruxton R takes this incredible bikes performance to another level by adding Showa Big Piston, full adjustable front forks, Ohlins fully adjust rear springs and Brembo 4 piston mono-block calipers. In 2017, Triumph will be releasing a full factory race kit upgrade for the Thruxton R as well.

As is their motto, Triumph has designed this all new Thruxton For the Ride. Nothing else on the road is going to match the combination of beauty and performance that it offers any willing rider. Taking into account what riders want, they have also released 130 different high quality accessories to give you the ability to personalize it as much as you’d like! With the all new Thruxton, Triumph has insured that the cafe racer will never be a trend, it will be a category of motorcycle that will be around as long as motorcycles are, and the competitors will forever be trying to keep up!
