Thunderbird Storm 1700
Less chrome, more power and more attitude. The Thunderbird Storm comes with a 1699cc engine and hard-edged style. Based on our original Thunderbird, our Storm keeps the pure Triumph twinned headlights but adds a low, blacked out look that is mean and minimalist for massive street presence backed up by huge torque and confident handling. We squeezed 102cc more from the muscle bound parallel twin engine so that it packs an even bigger punch. Still laid-back but underpinned by serious power and the best handling in the class. This is a cruiser with a dark side.
The Thunderbird Storm has a classic-looking engine that packs a mighty punch, but that power is delivered smoothly thanks to twin balance shafts. The result of the Thunderbird Storm’s bigger engine is more power at 98PS, and an even higher peak torque at 115lb/ft right down to 2950rpm with more torque across the entire rev range. So it delivers instant thrust when you twist the throttle, even at low RPMs.
Despite the air-cooled appearance, the Storm’s engine is liquid cooled for maximum efficiency. The radiator is unobtrusively placed between the frame downtubes and the fat twin exhaust headers. There’s plenty more 21st century tech tucked away too, like our highly accurate sequential fuel injection system with its progressive throttle linkage. Triumph has added double overhead camshafts and a crankshaft with 270 degree firing intervals to give you an engine with authentic cruiser character. The final drive is an inverted tooth belt with carbon fiber strands to give it a higher tensile strength than steel. Quiet, clean, and requires almost zero attention.
The Storm features ABS as standard so you never have to lose your cool. Lean and mean, the Storm features an on-board computer with clock, twin trip meters, and fuel gauge, along with a compact rev counter and electronic self canceling indicators.
Every new Triumph Motorcycle comes with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty. Scoot Richmond offers a myriad of customizable extended warranty and prepaid maintenance options on the purchase of any new Triumph too!
Fuel economy ranges from 38-56mpg, depending on your driving conditions, and the fuel tank holds 5.8 gallons of gas, which means that you can get more than 200 miles between fill-ups, remarkable for a cruiser. The Thunderbird Storm is also available in available in Lava Red, Matte Black and Matte Graphite.
Starting price on the 2016 Triumph Thunderbird Storm is $15,000. Please note that the MSRP does not reflect freight, prep, tax, tags, title and other dealer fees.
